Conventional Implants

A conventional tooth implant is the traditional process for dental implant treatments. In a conventional implants protocol,  healing time is left between each stage of your implant procedure. After the regenerative wait time, your bone condition or implant osseointegration is checked on its readiness and left to fully heal before the next phase of your implant steps proceeds.

Conventional implant protocls are stable and provides for high implant survival rates. This implant technique has good long-standing success rates and can be done for most types of bone conditions. It is the preferred and safest implant protocol if you are not rushed for time.

Stages for Conventional Implants

For conventional implants treatment, a healing time period of about 2 to 6 months is left between each stage below. This ensures all is well and there is successful healing before the following step is performed.

Stage 1

Implant Site Preparation
  • Tooth extraction
  • Bone grafting

Stage 2

Implant Post Surgical Insertion

Stage 3

Prosthetics Placed On Implant Post
  • crowns
  • bridge
  • hybrid bridge
  • dentures

If there is already no viable teeth and sufficient bone condition, then the above stage 1 is skipped. Your implant treatment time will be in just encompass 2 phases that takes about 2 to 6 months to complete stage 2 and 3.

With today’s advancements in tooth implant materials and bonegrafting techniques, almost anyone with missing teeth can now have implants done.  If there is moderate or severe jaw bone loss, bone grafting will normally be recommended after stage 1 or during stage 2.

New developments in tooth implant technologies and techniques can now dramatically shorten implant treatment time with immediate implants and immediate loaded implants.

Procedure for Conventional Implant Treatment

The tooth implant procedure is smiliar regardless of whether one, multiple or all teeth are missing. Below outlines what you may expect during dental implant treatment:

  1. Prepration on first evaluation, x-ray and tooth implant site preparation
    • A panoramic x-ray, 3D CT Scan and oral examination is done to determine implant site and bone condition
    • In cases where there is still an existing tooth, the tooth is removed. The site is left to heal for about a few weeks to 2 months. This allow any infection in the area to be cleared.
    • In situations where there is insufficient bone structure, bone grafting may be a recommended. If a moderate to major bone graft is done, bone grafts is done and left to heal for about 6 months.
    • Once healthy bone and any infection is cleared, the site is ready for the first stage implant post placement.
  2. First stage tooth implant placement
    • If the bone around the implant site is insufficient, bonegrafts may be added on during this stage.
    • When bone has been prepared, the implant post body is embedded into the jaw bone.
    • The soft tissue is sutured with a healing abutment that covers the implant site.
  3. Healing Process – Osseointegration
    • You may be re-called for seven to fourteen days after surgery to re-check your implant site and remove sutures.
    • The implant is left to integrate and heal with the jaw bone for about 2 to 6 months for conventional implants.
  4. Second stage attachment of abutment and prosthese
    • After the healing period, another panoramic x-ray is taken to check that the implant post has fused properly with your jaw bone.
    • The healing abutment is removed.
    • Tooth impression is taken for your prostheses and sent to our digitia dental implant lab
  5. Place prosthese over implants
    • On protheses delivery, your dentist attaches the permanent abutment with its prosthese onto the implant post body.
    • Your prosthodontist checks on your occlusion bite and adjusts your prosthese accordingly,
    • Post care instructions on how to care for your new prosthese is provided.

Conclusion to Tooth Implant

Conventional implants is standard and preferred treatment process for the majority of dental implant cases. At each treatment procedure of the dental implant journey, the conventional implants technique allows healing to occur. Your dentist proceeds on to the next step only when completely satisfied on the readiness of oral condition at each stage of treatment. Conventional implants do typically take longer than immediate or immediate function implant processes, but it is the safest and most stable treatment process. The methodology is applicable for tooth implant crowns, implant bridges or implant full bridges or implant-support dentures.

There are many dental implant systems in Thailand, conventional implants do not require any special range of implant system. All dental implant ranges will be compatible to be used for conventional implant process.
