Prophylaxis by Airflow Teeth Cleaning

Prophylaxis is teeth cleaning to prevent periodontal disease and tooth decay. Plaque is a mixture of bacteria, minerals and food leftovers that can irritates gums and causes inflammation over time. Plaque hardens into calculus, which no longer comes off by brushing or flossing. When you visit for an annual teeth cleaning, your dentists performs oral prophylaxis. With advance in today’s technologies, teeth cleaning is more comfortable and gentle with airflow.

Air Oral Cleaning

Air-flow teeth cleaning uses water jet combined with air, powder and water to clean teeth surfaces. It removes dental plaque, soft deposits and surface stains from pits, grooves, inter-proximal spaces. A precise stream enables a clog-free and effective oral clean.

Air Scaling

Air-scaling by air-flow removes hard tartar (calculus) buildup and soft plaque deposits on teeth surfaces. The technique cleans supra or subgingivally to remove agents that can cause inflammation. This helps teeth supporting tissues to be free of disease.

Air Polishing

Air polishing uses the same concept of air, specially processed sodium bicarbonate or glycine powders with water pressure to remove stains and smoothe teeth. Polishing makes your teeth shiny and less likely for plaque to stick over teeth.

At our BIDC, our dental center provides the choice of using conventional scalers and brushes for dental prophylaxis. Technologies from EMS Piezon is utilized for air-flow tooth polishing. The EMS Air-flow unit has a small tip and high frequency scaling tool. The unit is designed to enable complete sterilization in-line with our dental clinic core’s sterilization focus.
